Finished scraping the last bit of the vinyl floor under the fridge and the oven.

Redoing Floor

オットは有給消化のため来週丸一週間休みを取り、週末も入れると9連休です。
なので彼は張り切って家のリフォームプロジェクトに取り掛かっております。
それはいんだけどさ、私は来週普通に仕事だよ？なのにせっかくの週末もやっぱり手伝いに使いまわされております。

今回のメインは台所の床の張替え。
2年ぐらい前に1階の床を木の床に張り替えた時、台所だけ床を同じ木にするかタイルにするかで迷い、結局ビニール張りの床を剥いだところで頓挫していたのでした。
ずっとコンクリむき出しの床だったんだけど、結局他の部分と同じ木の床にすることになり、今日はビニールの床がまだ残っているオーブンと冷蔵庫の下、それから食料庫の中のビニールをはぐ作業です。

ビニール床を剥いだ後、残った紙部分と糊部分をかみそりの刃をつけた道具でコンクリからこそぎ取っていく作業です。
単純作業だけど、結構大変なのよ。
以前何週間もかけて1階全部の床を張り直したときに比べれば何十分の一の面積だけど、しばらく肉体労働してなかったのでちょっとの作業ですぐへとへと。

あ～、面倒くさい。

映画 Enough Said

映画「おとなの恋には嘘がある」を見ました。
星3.5。

中年のバツイチな二人が付き合い始める話なんだけど、とても現実味があってよかったです。
先日急逝してしまったジェームズ・ガンドルフィーニが非常にかわいらしいです。
まさに私のタイプです。

Watched "Enough Said."

Chick flick for middle aged women. I liked it. It felt real, possibly happening, and understanding.
Maybe because I am also easily influenced by other people too. If I like something, say a movie, or book, or whatever, and hear good friends trashing it as something bad taste, I get less certain too.
And the movie is well set up to make that more realistic, Kathleen Keener's role being a newly acquired client, a poet, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus admires her style, and like she says in the movie, she gets sucked into Kathleen Keener.
Anyway, I think the true reason I liked this movie was that James Gandolfini is really, really cute in the movie, and he is definitely my kind of guy. I want to be adored by him too.

・・・やっぱりね。いつもながら服の出来栄えの感想じゃじないしね。
これはXSサイズで作ったんだけど、次に作る時はSで作ろうと思います。

Finished Maria Denmark's Day to Night Drape Top.
LOVE IT.
Only 2 pattern pieces. Cut size SX. No alteration.
Even for me, a beginner sewer, I was able to finish it quickly.

I used fold over elastic for back neck and arm hole finish. This is my first venture with FOE and I LOVE it. Very clean finish.
For the next one, I will probably try cutting size S.

Curry Lunch

ワールドカップで、日本チームのファンが試合終了後にスタジアムのゴミ拾いをしている姿が、アメリカでもニュースになっていたよ。チームは負けちゃったけど、ファンに拍手。

夕ご飯の残りものでカレー弁当です。ご飯はカレーの下にしいてあります。
インスタント味噌汁つき。

最近オットは日本語勉強中。
オット「今日の夕ご飯何？」
私「カレーの残り物でいい？」
オット「（日本語で）元気！」日本語で答えた自分に満足なのか満面の笑み。

・・・何が元気？と思うでしょう？
ちょっと高度だったね、これは、オットよ。私も一瞬考えたわよ。

「カレーでいい」っていう承認の「いい」は英語でfine。
Fineは「元気」。
だから「それでいいよ」っていう"That's fine"が、彼の中では「元気」だったのでしょう。

なんか自信満々に笑顔で言われると、お前大間違いだよって言うのがかわいそうで、そうですか、お元気ですか、と普通に受け止めてしまったよ。

WIP: Maria Denmark Day to Night Drape Top

先日のワンピースを作った後に残った布。
捨てるにはかなりの量の布だけど、スカートやワンピースには全然たらない量なので、タンクトップを作ってみることにしました。

タンクトップ初挑戦です。乞うご期待。

Since I did not re-cut the McCall's M6713, I had just enough fabric left over for a tank top.
I was thinking of a simple tank top but since the ITY knit is drapey, I decided to make Maria Denmark's Day to Night Drape Top.
It only has 2 pattern pieces and my fabric was just enough for Size XS, though my body is probably towards Size S. We'll see how it fits. After all, it's a left over fabric, nothing to lose (except that I HAD TO buy the pattern when I had 10 other patterns sitting in my sewing room never been touched).

映画 Dallas Buyers Club

映画「ダラス・バイヤーズクラブ」を見ました。

星3.5。
エイズが発病していることが発覚した男性が、アメリカでは承認されていない薬を海外から持ち込み、HIV/エイズ患者に販売するという映画です。
食品医薬品局未承認の薬を販売目的で輸入したり販売したりすると色々法律にひっかかるので、薬を販売する代わりに、会員制のクラブを作り会員費を払えばいくらでも薬がもらえるというシステムにするわけです。
トレーラーに住んで、酒と女におぼれていた、いわゆる下層社会の男性だけど、実はとてもきれるひとだったわけです。

日本の映画の宣伝は、実話だとすぐ「感動の」っていう枕詞がつくけど、これは実話でも感動するよりはアメリカンドリームな話だな、と思う。
そして一番はジャレッド・レトの女装っぷり、というかトランスジェンダー役っぷり。
アカデミー助演男優賞とるのわかる。とてもきれいです。

Watched Dallas Buyers Club.

I know Matthew McConaughey got the best actor but I think Jared Leto did phenomenally, even better than Matthew McConaughey. Because, after all, Matthew McConaughey is always kind of like that except for his sickly thin physique. Compared to Matthew McConaughey being his regular rough cowboy, Jared Leto's transformation both physically, not the weight but femininity, and acting was amazing. Of course, if I think about it, Jared Leto is also always kind of like that too; he's usually the outsider, eccentric, introverted, dark, artistic kind of guy, so I guess it's not a big surprise that his acting of Rayon was so good. Anyway, he deserved the Oscar.

Taco Bread

ひっさしぶりにパンを焼きました。それも張り切ってお惣菜パン。
その名もタコパン。

八本足のタコではなくて、タコスのタコね。
肉味噌のレタス巻きを作る予定でひき肉を解凍しておいたんだけど、予定が変わったので急遽ひき肉消費のためのタコパンなのでした。（本当はピザパンを作りたかった）
いつもながら見た目はイマイチですが、味は珍しくオットにも合格点をいただきました。イェイ。
おやつにお惣菜パンが食べたかったのよね。
夏場はイーストが活発に呼吸してくれるのでベンチタイムが短めでいいよね。

映画 Escape Plan

映画「大脱出」を見ました。

星三つ。
スタローンとシュワルツェネッガーの夢の競演。おじいちゃんが二人頑張ってます。

どうでもいいけど日本版の公式サイトや予告編、リンク張るのためらいたいぐらい完全なるネタばれなんですけど。びっくりした。宣伝担当の人、気づかなかったのか？

Watched Escape Plan.
★★★
Nothing great about it, but it wasn't bad either. Perfect movie for summer solstice night.
I was surprised that the Japanese trailer and the official website were both a total spoiler. Not only did they spoil but they also kept the trailer and the website up. If I were the distributor, I would probably fire the ad agency and re-do the trailer & ad. Wouldn't you?

Happy ending for Mr. Darcy

Finished reading the volume 3 of the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy, These Three Remain.

...Well, Mr. Darcy got kind of boring in this book with Elizabeth infatuation. All he thinks is Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth. Everything is Elizabeth.

I think author tried too hard to fill the gap of Darcy's transformation that the original Pride and Prejudice omitted to describe in detail, and tried too hard to latch on to the idea that it was Elizabeth who changed him and it was for Elizabeth he has now have to face his pride and conceit. And it was just repeated too many times throughout.

The repetition of notion of Elizabeth and his newly revised attitude towards things beyond his family confirms that the transformation was merely for Elizabeth and because of Elizabeth, and not coming from sublimed state, which made me disappointed at Mr. Darcy. Or is this the quality of fan fiction romance novel?

But in the end, as we all know, I am glad that Mr. Darcy got the happy ending. The series is definitely a great companion for the BBC mini series (with Colin Firth, of course).
Much easier to read than the real Pride and Prejudice and a lot of Mr. Darcy. Enjoyed it.

FO: McCall's M6713

完成！
この前の写真とあんまり変わらないけど、裾の始末をしたのでひざが見えるぐらいになりました。
そして外出前なので一応サンダルも履いてるし。

よく見えないけど、一応上身ごろはラップドレス状態です。
出来上がったオットの感想：「腕の贅肉どうにかしたほうがいいよ」
・・・服の感想じゃないし。
っていうか、こうして写真で見てみたら、マジで腕やばいですね？アラフォー、イェイ。

Finished McCall's M6713.
View A minus shoulder pads, flouncy thing, and waist elastic.
Cut size 12, but probably can go down to 10 or even 8 next time considering the amount I took in.
Added a dart to back neck to eliminate back neck gaping.
Raised armholes about an inch.
The back bodice sagged quite a lot (or possibly because the size is too big for me and because of my sway back) so cut off about 1.5 inch each from both back bodice and back skirt.
Hemmed at 18.5 inches from the floor with blind hem stitch.

The boob coverage is surprisingly good. If I'm standing, the weight of the skirt pulls the bodice down nicely to fit over my almost non-existing boobs, but if I'm sitting on a couch or something, the overlaps do get baggy so I hand sewed a couple of inches at the overlap to secure.

Also, I cut the bodice pieces backwards accidentally so it is wrapping left side over right side.
But since I always think that right side over is for dead people in Japan, I like this way better (as if since when am I religious).

Since I did not add the flouncy thingy, I should have combined the center skirt patterns and make it as one piece. Now I have an unnecessary seam line going down off center in the front.
Well, I guess if that's the case, next time, I will probably cut the back skirt piece on fold and cut 2.
The fabric was very slinky (poly) but at least the print is busy enough that it masks the wonky seams.

I am very happy with this dress. Good beginner dress that looks complicated (but not).
I would love to make another one again.

お昼ごはんに仕事場に手軽に持っていけるものが無かったので、日本から送ったカップラーメンをお昼に食べました。

Japanese Instant Ramen

う、うまい。うますぎる。
日本のカップラーメンがこんなにおいしいって、すっかり忘れてた。
私がいつも食べるカップラーメンなんて、５０セントで買えるラーメンで、調理方法は「水を入れてレンジで４分」とかいうふざけたものだもんね。麺がどうのとか言えるレベルの食材じゃないもんね。大体電子レンジっていうのおかしいよね。

昔からカップラーメンこんなにおいしかったっけ？もう麺のこしなんて、インスタントとは思えないんだけど。あ～、もっと買ってくれば良かった～。
（カップラーメンは軽いのはいいけどかさばるんだよね）

Oh. My. Goodness.
I have forgotten how good Japanese instant noodles were. I had been eating those 10 cents maruchan ramen too long.

I had a genuine Japanese instant noodle for lunch. Not the kind that you pour water and microwave. The bowl is not even microwavable. You are supposed to pour hot water and wait, patiently, this particular one, for 5 minutes.

The noodle's texture was such that it was hard to believe it was instant noodle. Even the dried green onion bits turned into almost fresh green onion.
This is what it's supposed to be, instant noodle. Never soggy, never microwaved. If you put some boiled eggs in it, it's as good as what you can find in a pseudo Japanese restaurant.

WIP: McCall's M6713

現在作成中のワンピース。
型紙から取り直して、布も切りなおそうと思ったけど、やっぱり縫い目をほどいて修正することにしました。
糸４本のロックミシンで縫ったあとをほどくのはけっこうしんどい。
それでもなんとか脇のガバガバも直り、あとは裾のヘリを縫えば終了なところまでたどり着きました。
オットに感想を求めたら、「ウェスト縮めたほうがいいんじゃない？」
・・・いや、これが私のウェストだから。これ以上縮まないから。

McCall's M6713

My current project, McCall's M6713.
I thought I would re-do the bodice from scratch, but decided to just rip it and re-sew it.
It was a bitch to rip the overlocked seam. It tests your patience.
All I have to do now is to hem.
Easy to say, but since my back is sagging big time and I had to take in about 1.5 inches from both bodice back and skirt back, hem is all slanted if you see from the side. I will have to straighten the edge then will do blind hem with my sewing machine.

天ぷらそば

庭で取れた野菜を天ぷらにしました。

きれいに盛り付けてステキな写真を撮ろうとかそういう気持ちは全く無いので、まさにこれが普段の夕ご飯、っていう写真ですんません。
意味不明なフォーク写ってるけど、ちゃんと箸で食べるよ、もちろん。
ナスとズッキーニとオクラとピーマンみたいなもの（日本語名不明。というか英語名も不明）。
めんつゆは珍しく市販のものを使ったんだけど、庭に生えているあさつきを入れてみました。
天ぷら粉はこちらのレシピを使ってみました。
薄力粉、片栗粉、塩、水、酢といういつも家にある材料でできるのがいいね。

Made tempura from the garden vegetables.
Eggplant, zucchini, and some kind of pepper I don't even know what it's called.
The soba sauce has chives that also grew in the garden.
Can I still call it eating local when soba noodle came all the way from Japan?

RED 2

ブルース・ウィリス主演のアクション映画、「RED リターンズ」を見ました。「RED／レッド」の続編ね。

星三つ。
何も考えずに楽しめるアクション映画でした。

このシリーズの何が好きって、ジョン・マルコビッチがとてもかわいいおじいちゃんなところ。

John Malkovich

彼の悪役どころも好きだけど（コン・エアーのサイラスとかね）ちょっと飛んでる、お茶目なおじいちゃんなマルコは他ではあまり見れないので好きです。

Watched RED2.

Can I just say we need more of these light action movies that you can just watch and enjoy?
We used to have those movies a lot. Call it 80's, but we did. Schwarzenegger movies, Eddie Murphy movies, etc.

Nowadays, action movies have become so big, the directors and producers think that they have to blow up a lot of stuff big time and they have to have complicated action sequences, all the time, all throughout the movie.
That's not what I want to watch when I want to wind down at the end of the day.
RED and RED 2 are both nicely done, easy action movies.

Besides, Malkovich is perfectly charming in this movie.
Oh my Malko. Yes, I collected magazine clippings of Malkovich when I was younger.
I like Cyrus the Virus (by the way, Con Air is another perfectly made action movie) but I like to see him on the good guy side, and he does such a good job being an eccentric old man in RED 2.

Generation Iron

プロのボディビルダーのドキュメンタリー映画、「Generation Iron」というのを見ました。

星三つ。
１９７０年代にアーノルド・シュワルツェネッガーが何度も優勝した、ボディビルディングの最高峰（なのか？）なボディビルの大会（優勝するとミスター・オリンピアという称号が与えられるので有名です）に向けてトレーニングに励む選手の姿を追ったもの。

ムキムキどころか、もうハルクみたいになっちゃってる選手たちの間に、日本人のボディビルダーも紹介されていました。

Hidetada Yamagishi

珍しいね、日本人でここまでムキムキにできるのって。
日本にいたらきっと化け物扱いよね。

人間の筋肉ってここまで大きくなるものなのね、と感心する一方で、やっぱりステロイドやヒト成長ホルモン副作用が気になります。
他のスポーツでは使用禁止されているのに、ボディビルには規制がないのだろうか。
前述の日本人ボディビルダーなんかステロイド所持で警察に捕まってるみたいだし。

筋肉を保ち、脂肪を減らすために各自で厳しい食事制限の中で暮らしていて、巨大な男がタッパーにつめたお弁当を食べているのをみたら、ちょっと応援したくなるけどね。

Watched Generation Iron.

I don't know, I think the use of steroid and HGH should be regulated in bodybuilding too. The body builders featured in the movie all looked, well, sort of not human. Enormous body, enlarged head, giant boobs.
I respect their serious attitude toward the sport of bodybuilding and their effort to achieve the so-called perfect body, don't get me wrong.
The movie barely touch the subject of steroid and HGH. It's just a default state in the field.
What I admire them is their strict diet. When those big dudes prepare each day's meals on their own and hunch back over a tupperware to eat their lunch or second lunch or third lunch or whatever, they are kind of cute.

On a side note, I have watched Bigger, Stronger, Faster before. It is another documentary that focuses on the use of steroid for wrestlers. It was crudely made as a feature length documentary movie, obviously can't afford Mickey Rourke to do the narrating, but I like the focus it had and the honesty about the steroid use.

双子が産まれました。

WIP: McCall's M6713 仕切りなおし

しばらく放置してあったニットのワンピースの製作に取り掛かったものの、上半身部分が完成なところまでたどり着いて試しに着てみたらサイズがかなり微妙・・・。
首の後ろのところがガバガバで、わきの下もガバガバで。
ロックミシンまでかけたのを泣く泣くほどいて直してみたんだけどやっぱり微妙で、なんか大失敗作になってしまいました。
悔しかったのと、まだスカート残ってるのと、布が幸いあまってるのもあるので、ここは一発仕切りなおしです。
切りなおしです。

青いのが布です

胸周りのサイズをひとつ小さくして（でもウェストはそのまま。私の体ってかなり長方形）型紙をトレーシングペーパーになぞるところからまた始まりです。
（だから型紙は切らずにトレーシングペーパーを使って大正解）
一歩進んで二歩下がっています。
まぁ、そんな人生もあり。

Seam ripper is my best friend.
I think sewing is 60% prep work and ripping, 30% pressing, and 10% at the sewing machine.
After cutting the pattern and fabric at size 12, my McCall's M6713 proved to be a bit baggy.
Back neck and armholes were gaping big time.
I tried to fix the back neck gaping by putting a dart; it worked.
Then I thought, why don't I put a clear elastic on the front neck?
...Well, that was not a good idea.
I must have pulled the elastic too much that the whole front neck became wonky.

Hard pill to swallow, but decided to re-start the project from tracing and cutting patterns for size 10 (and ease out to size 12 at waist) and re-cut the fabric.
...But that's for another day. Today, I will just walk away.

Our beef has arrived

今年は大奮発して草で育てられた牛肉を沢山買いました。記念に並べてみた。

和牛とLimousinという種類の牛を配合した牛のお肉です。
一体全部で何十キロなんでしょう。
冷凍庫に入りきるかちょっと心配だったけど、なんとか詰め込みました。
ひき肉はハンバーガーになるとして、巨大な塊のお肉をどうするか悩むわ。

Purchased 1/8 of a beef.
It is hybrid of wagyu and Limousin beef and grass-fed.
There are 23? packages of 1-pound ground beef. I guess we are going to have a lot of hamburgers. That's like eating hamburgers every other week. I had made taco meat out of different grass-fed beef before, but I felt it's such a waste to put so much spice in such good meat. I'm not a big hamburger fan but it is definitely a good way to showcase good ground beef, I think.

Sake

ショットグラスで、お酒を飲む。それもこれはハワイ土産のショットグラス（笑）雰囲気出ね～。

そういえばうちではショットグラスでお酒を飲むのが多いです。
お猪口も枡もあるんだけど、ショットグラスが手軽でよし。
量的にも、私にはこれが限界。
越の誉です。わざわざスーツケースに入れて持って帰ってきた。
去年日本に行ったときは原酒造の酒蔵の見学もしたのです。完全に観光客ですな。

Sake from a local brewery.
This one is daiginjo, which uses only 50% of the rice grain so it tastes more refined and less stinky.
It almost tastes like wine, not like in a sense of sake being translated as "rice wine" but it really dose taste like wine.
I am neither a wine drinker nor a sake drinker. A shot glass full is about as much as I can drink and enjoy.
I was able to visit the inside of the brewery last year so yey to the local business.

Japanesey Trail Mix

おやつ用にいつもトレイルミックスを常備しておきます。
トレイルミックスっていうのは、ナッツ類やドライフルーツを混ぜたもの。山歩き用に携帯が便利で栄養価が高いおやつとして利用されます。
私はドライフルーツが好きではないので、自分でナッツやクラッカーを混ぜて作ります。
日本から沢山おやつを買ってきたので、トレイル・ミックス日本版。

Japaneasey Trail Mix

中に入っているのは：
－柿の種のおおきいやつ
－ソラマメ
－小魚アーモンド
－グリーンピー
－大豆
－アーモンド
お腹がすいたときにポリポリ食べるわけです。
仕事中に食べてたら同僚に「魚入ってる！」ってびっくりされた。

-Green peas
-Wasabi Peanuts
-Fava beans
-Soy beans

Lunch

オットのお弁当はほぼ毎日同じ。
この人よくあきもせずに毎日毎日同じお弁当を何年も食べ続けるな、とある意味感心する。

前公開したのと変わらないな、やっぱり。
中年男性のお弁当には見えないよね。

メニューは：
１．サンドイッチ。大抵七面鳥のハム（時々鶏肉のハムとか、豚肉のハムとか）で、週ごとに味が微妙に違う。チーズもチェダーだったり、スイスだったり、微妙に違う。大体レタスを一枚はさんでおく。時々ラッキーだとベーコンが入る。
２．果物。春はイチゴ、夏はブドウ、秋はりんご、冬は柑橘系。基本的にセールになってる果物。安い果物が無いときはバナナ（バナナは常に安い）。
３．グラノーラバー。同じメーカーで味が違うのを毎日一つ。
４．にんじん。
５．おやつ。日本からの救援物資が届いてるときは、柿の種だったり、こつぶっこだったり。日本のお菓子が無いときはミックスナッツだったり、チョコバーだったり、ポテトチップの小さい袋だったり。
６．写真には写ってないけど、水筒に冷たいお茶を入れて持っていきます。普段はアイスティーだけど、今は日本から水出し緑茶のお徳用パックを買ってきたので大活躍中。

もう１０年以上も、毎日大体これよ。すごい忍耐力よね。
私には絶対無理、こんなに毎日同じもの。（と思いながら毎朝同じお弁当をつめる妻）
会社の給湯室に電子レンジはあるらしいんだけど、使うの面倒くさいらしい。
奴の職場は、パーティションで机周りを仕切ってるだけなので、匂いの強い食品は犬猿されるのもある。
私が日本に行っていた間も、やっぱりサンドイッチを作って持っていっていたらしい。
見てみたかったな、奴が自分で自分のお弁当を準備している姿。きっと惚れるよね。

ちなみに私のお弁当は夕ご飯の残りか、缶入りスープか、カップラーメンかな。
カップラーメンも日本のおいしいカップラーメンは高級すぎるので、５０セントぐらいで買える、ものすごいアメリカンななんちゃってカップラーメンだけど。
私は仕事場がドアつきの個室なので、魚くさくなければ何食べても平気。

はぁ、なんかこう、健康そうなおやつのいいアイデアないかなぁ。

Ender's Game

映画、「エンダーのゲーム」を見ました。

星三つ。
近未来、エイリアンに対抗するためにゲーム慣れした子供世代の中から、戦艦隊を指揮する司令官を見つけ出して訓練させるという話です。
原作本は海兵隊の必読書にもなってるらしい？

The kid is cute. The movie kind of reminds me of Harry Potter. Maybe the movie was targeted for kids who like the story of a kid hero among the adults.
I might read the book since the Man of The House recommends it. We'll see.

The Story of Luke

The Story of Luke

Watched "The Story of Luke."
★★★
It's a story of an autistic 25-year-old, who was living with his grandparents.
The g'mo dies and g'pa goes to a care facility and Luke is left to live with his uncle and his family.
It is a very typical "a special needs kids who is not bound by the social norm behaves 'from his heart' and changes the people surrounding him who had issues" story.
Cliche, but well, it wasn't too bad.

次の裁縫プロジェクトはニットのワンピースです。

M6713 Knit dress

まだまだ裁縫初心者なので、型紙は切らずにトレーシングペーパーでなぞってそれを切ります。
そんなわけでせっせと型紙なぞり中。

My next sewing project is McCall's M6713 knit dress.
Hopefully it's easy enough.
Since I am not anywhere near confident enough to cut the tissue pattern, I am tracing it one by one.
The pattern calls for shoulder pads. ...Shoulder pads? in 2014? Having lived through the 80's, I respectfully decline the shoulder pads. We'll see if not using the shoulder pads would affect the overall style.

Triple-Digit

本格的に熱い夏になりました。
車が熱いです。ハンドルとか、火傷しそうです。
朝の犬の散歩を怠ったので、犬には夕方みっちりプールで遊んでもらいました。
さすがに４０度は、そろそろ私もプール入ってしまうかも。

Dry heat.
"It's a dry heat" as if to utter mantra.
But then, having lived through humid summers, triple-digit dry heat is much comfortable than 90 degrees in the South. ...Or maybe I just think so because I would just stay in the air-conditioned room during the day, and I would actually have to wear a cardigan and use a lap blanket because it is freezing inside the building.

Sherlock is BAAAACK (on Netflix)

BBS制作のドラマ「シャーロック」が好きです。

ベネディクト・カンバーバッチがシャーロックのやつね。
うちのテレビはケーブルテレビも加入してないし、アンテナ受信もできないので普通のテレビでは見れないんだけど、唯一加入しているストリーミングサービスにとうとう「シャーロック」第３シーズンが登場で、やっと見れる～。

ベネディクト・カンバーバッチは、最初はどこがいい男なの？！と思ったけど、見れば見るほど味のある顔してるわ。雰囲気がいいし。お坊ちゃまっぽそうなとことか。頭よさそげなとことか。

Sherlock is back. On Netflix. Season 3. Yey.

One sad thing about Sherlock is that, well, with my limited English ability, it can be quite hard to understand what he's saying in his lightening fast and long speech. As much as I love the sound of British English, it still proves to be difficult for me to distinguish the words when spoken so fast without wide opening of the mouth like American people do. I can "get" what's going on, but I miss the important plot detail.

By the way, after watching the previous seasons of Sherlock, I actually read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's actual Sherlock stories (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes). Sherlock in the book so well matches with Cumberbatch's Sherlock and it was quite pleasurable to read those short stories of Sherlock Holmes imagining Cumberbatch in my head as Sherlock.

Thoughts on Cumberbatch. He is not a traditional handsome man. He has, in a way, Harry Potter's Lord Voldemort like paleness and slitheriness, which can be construed as ugly. But what is it that makes him look so good-looking and charming despite his non-traditional handsomeness? Is it intelligence? Honesty? Is it the posture or the manner that makes him look borderline arrogant but which captivates people because of that vulnerability that hides behind it? Charisma? Anyway, Cumberbatch's Sherlock is done superbly.

So, I just watched the Episode 1 of the Season 3, but then found out that there was actually a mini-episode that act as a prequal to the Season 3 (about Anderson), so I guess I want to watch that first before moving on to the Episode 2.

Plumbago

毎週スーパーのデリのところでサンドイッチ用のハム（ターキーだけど）を１週間分スライスしてもらいます。（オットのお昼ご飯のサンドイッチ用）
デリにいつもいるおじさん（推定５０歳前後）が、しっかりお化粧したおばさんに変身していた。
声は普通にオヤジ声のままだったけど。

庭のルリマツリがいっせいに開花しました。
もともとは地面に植わっていたのを、花壇作成のために枝をかなり切って移植したため花がつかなくてちょっと心配だったので、咲いてほっとした。

Plumbago

Our plumbago flowers finally blossomed. We originally planted it on the ground years ago, but we cut it very small and transplanted it into a pot when we built the raised flower garden earlier this year.

Blueberry Muffins

ブルーベリーが安かったのでブルーベリーマフィンを作りました。

Blueberries were on sale so I made some blueberry muffins.

Pickled Eggplant

花壇畑からナスがひとつ取れたので、何に使おうか迷ったあげく（だって１個だけだし）、結局きゅうりとにんじんと混ぜて浅漬けになりました。

えぇ、日本からのオットへのお土産は、各種浅漬けの素だったのです（笑）
この後夏場はずっと浅漬けだな。
やっぱりこういうインスタントな素があると簡単でいいね～～～。

Asazuke Mix

We got an eggplant from the vegetable garden. But only one. And it is a Japanese eggplant, so it's much smaller than the American eggplant.
After the Man of the House's failure of so-called "eggplant bacon," the precious eggplant was turned into a mix-veggie pickle using the pickling mix.

The type of pickling we do with the mix is super easy. Typically, just sprinkle the granulated mix over the veggie and in 20 minutes, it's done.
It's called "asazuke" so technically not quite pickling; no brine or vinegar required.
