Jalie 3022 Yoga Pants
この前作った短パンと同じ型紙から、ヨガパンツを作りました。ヨガなんてやったこともないけどね。

Dog Walking Day
まだまだ熱いので、シェルターの散歩ボランティアは頑張って早起きしてさくさくっと行きたいところです。
今日の１匹目はおよそ４歳のブラッキー君でした。もう一月もシェルターにいるようです。お座りもちゃんと上手にできました。早く里親がみつかるといいね。
It's still hot outside once the sun goes up so I'm trying very hard to wake up early (on Sunday!) to go to the dog walking volunteer at the shelter.
Today's first dog was Blackie. Approximately 4 years old. He behaved very well during the walk and sat on command. I hope he gets adopted soon.

New Sink & Faucet
仕事から帰ってきたら、洗面台が新しくなってた。
有給消化中のオットが、この前ペンキを塗りなおしたお風呂場のシンクと蛇口を買い換えたようです。まだコーキング作業中で使えませんが。
When I got home from work, the sinks and faucets in the bathroom were updated.
The Man of the House was taking a day off and he bought new sink/faucet sets and installed them in the bathroom that we recently re-painted.
He's still working on the caulking so can't use it just yet.

Simplicity 4177 Chiffon Peasant Top
ポリエステルのシフォン生地でトップス作ってみた。
おぉ、これはトップもスカートも自作ですよ。
シフォンは非常に取り扱いが難しかったです。
しわ加工されているので、すぐに伸びてしまって余計。
こうしてみると、やっぱり私の頭って、肩幅ぐらいあるよね。
仕事上がりなので、スカートに座りじわがしっかり出来ておりますが。
タックは結構均等に入ったと思います。
型紙はシンプリシティ４１７７。右列トップのピンク色の絵の奴ね。
I made a Simplicity 4177 peasant top.
I made a view E with front tucks and waist strap.
Since the pattern has a lot of design ease, I cut a straight size 8, though I'm supposed to be 12 according to my size.
The fabric is an aqua color poly crinkled chiffon.
This was my very first chiffon project. In a way, the crinkle texture helped to keep grain line straight, but I had to be very careful not to stretch it.
The cut pieces did not stay in one shape so I spray starched all the pieces, which helped a lot.
I also used my fancy sewing machine's fancy integrated walking foot feature and used microtex needle, which also worked really well.
I should have used french seam to make the inside cleaner since the fabric is very sheer, but I wasn't sure about the size and did not want to unpick the french seam so the edges were just serged, which I actually did before sewing the seams.
It was a good good project to learn how to handle chiffon since the pattern is very simple.
I think this will also look good with seersucker fabric in summer, too.
I somehow twisted the elastic around the neck inside the casing, but I do not want to unpick this chiffon fabric so the elastic will have to stay twisted.
Skirt is New Look 6843, by the way. Yey for hand-made garment for both top and bottom.
Just disregard the wrinkles. It was after a full day of work.

Sewing Machine Table
新しいミシンを買って早２ヶ月。
以前のミシンは、大きさに合わせて穴を開けた机に埋まるように乗っていたんだけど、新しいミシンは若干幅広でこの穴に入らないため、穴を大きく開けてもらって、高さも調節してもらいました。
It has been over 2 months since I bought my fancy sewing machine.
The Man of the House had previously made a sewing machine table for Kenmore, but the new Janome is slightly wider and wouldn't fit in the recess hole so he made the recess bigger and deeper to fit the Janome.

Croquette
珍しく１個ずつ計りながら形成したんだけど、７５グラムだとかなり大きいコロッケになりました。
重いからあんまり浮いてこないし。
コロッケとご飯って、ものすごい炭水化物率の高い夕ご飯よね。１７個できました。

Dog Walking: Finn
シェルターの散歩ボランティアに行ってきました。
今日はボランティアが多くて９時過ぎには散歩が必要な犬全頭散歩終了でした。
ちなみにここのシェルターには犬・猫合わせて８００匹ぐらい動物が収容されていて、そのうち散歩が必要なのは里親募集中の犬２００頭ぐらい。
猫は猫ボランティアがケージから出して遊んだり、残りの犬は最近捕獲された迷い犬だったり、病気持ちで治療中の犬だったりで散歩に出れない犬たちです。
今日散歩に出した犬の一匹、フィン君は、巨大なエリザベスカラーで私のふくらはぎをつつきまくる以外はとても素直な良い犬でした。
元の飼い主の引越しで捨てられたようです。

We had a lot of volunteers today so we were done by a little past 9 o'clock.
There are about 800 animals, mostly dogs and cats, at this shelter, and about 200 dogs need to be walked daily.
The cat volunteers play and cuddle with the cats, the rest of the dogs are either recent stray dogs waiting for owners or under recovery from illness and they can't go out for a walk.
One of the dogs that I walked today was Finn. He was dropped off at the shelter recently as an owner surrender; the notes on the kennel card says due to owner's move. He was a sweet, sweet boy and I enjoyed the walk, other than his huge Elizabethan collar kept poking me at my calf. He was a very well behaved, calm dog and I hope I don't have to see him next time I go there.

Soft Sole Baby Shoes Ver. 2
前回作った赤ちゃんの靴が気に入らなかったので、別の型紙でもうひとつ作ってみました。
・・・でもやっぱり微妙だな。
Since I did not like the last pair of soft sole baby shoes very much, I tried a pair with a different pattern.
I don't know, I'm still not happy with it.

Harry Potter Series
ハリーポッター１巻を読み始めたのが２月ぐらいだったんだけど、やっと全７巻読み終えました。
一応１ヶ月に１冊本を読むのが目標なので、ペース的にはオッケーかと。（児童文学１冊読むのに一月かかってるっていうのはおいておいて）
シリーズ後半は話が色々込み合ってきて、すっかり内容を忘れていたので楽しめました。
ちなみに私が４冊目を読み始めたころに、オットも１巻から読み直し始めたんだけど、私が６巻にたどり着くころには彼はとっとと全７巻読み終えていました。
シリーズを読みながら、映画も順次見直していたので、あと映画最後の２巻分（７巻は映画２つに分かれてるから、３作か）見たら我が家のハリポタ熱終了。
次はジョージ・オーウェルの「動物牧場」の予定。（図書館の貸し出し順番待ち中）
Finally, finished reading Harry Potter series. I started reading the first book in February, and my goal is to read 1 book a month, so I am right on track. (Don't mention the fact that it takes a whole month to read a children's book)
Though I had read the entire series before and have seen the entire movie series as well, I kind of forgot the complicated story of Horcrux and the Hallows, so I did enjoy reading the series again.
Of course, the more I read, the more I dislike Dumbledore and the more I notice how jerk and kind of selfish Harry is (I guess he is in that way very similar to Dumbledore).
The next book is Animal Farm (on the library's waiting list). Not that I really want to read it but so that I can understand the Man of the House when he references it, which is pretty frequently. I don't even like classic books in Japanese so we shall see if I like it...
If I could have a super power, I want the power to speed read.

Wellness Exam
健康診断に行ってきました。
毎年のことだけど、今年もお医者さんに「子宮頸部細胞診やりなさい」、「結腸内心境検査やりなさい」とぶつぶつ言われたけど、まだ健康なので結構です、と今年も丁重にお断りしました。
でも今年は頑張ってインフルエンザの予防接種と血液検査やってみました。
私、献血はしたことあるけど、血液検査するの初めてじゃない？
ちなみに血液検査の結果、ビタミンD不足だからサプリ飲みなさいといわれました。
毎日一応マルチビタミンのサプリ飲んでるんだけどなぁ。
アジア人だからビタミンD不足は骨粗しょう症リスクが高いということで、素直にサプリ買ってきました。
あと白血球値が高かったので、要再検査、と言われました。
年取ると、色々出てくるわね。
ライチも年取ってすっかり白くなっちゃったわ。
（無理やりポージングさせているのでイヤイヤ感いっぱい）

This year, however, I agreed to a blood test and even a flue shot.
The lab results say I'm borderline vitamin D deficient and high in white blood cell count.
Since I'm in the high-risk group (Asians, because of the dietary habits and less sun exposure, though living in the desert I get plenty of sun exposure year around), I was told to take vitamin D3 supplements.
I'm following the order since it's much easier to take supplements than undergoing a colonoscopy. Yup, let's keep the doctor happy and keep my bones strong.
I hate taking pills though... I already take multi vitamins, Zyrtec, and Biotin supplement every day. I feel like I'm some overly conscious health-nut.

Painting a Bathroom
月曜が勤労感謝の日で祝日なので、３連休中です。２ヶ月ぶりの祝日。
長い休みを利用して、主寝室のお風呂場の壁のペンキ塗りをすることにしました。
この家に住んで早８年、とうとうチョコレート色のお風呂場とおさらばです。
チョコレート色があまりにも濃いので、以前買ったはいいけど、イマイチ気に入らなくて使わずにとっておいたペンキを下塗り用に使っています。
茶色い壁がなくなっただけで一気にお風呂場が明るくなりました。
今日はオットがお友達と四輪駆動車ドライブに出かけているので、本塗りは明日。

Since we had 4 or 5 smaller cans of flat paint of different shades of pale green/blue/gray from previous project, we are just using them for a base coat to hide the brown first.
The previous painter did a terrible job overpainting the ceiling/wall joint and wall/baseboard joint so we had to put 3 coats of white paint first on the joints to hide the brown over paint.
It is amazing how bright the room got by just getting rid of the brown.
We are taking a day off today and will resume painting the main color tomorrow. Yey for the 3 day weekend.

Soft Sole Baby Shoes
最近ハイハイが出来るようになったらしい甥に、布製の靴を作りました。
どっちかと言うと、「甥のためにプレゼント！」というよりは、最近こういう布製の靴を履いてる赤ちゃんが沢山いるんだけど、お母さん（私の義母）に縫ってもらおうかと思ってるんだけど、どう思う？と、作り方のビデオ付のメールが届いて、結局私が試験台ということになっているよう。
赤ちゃん製品は非常に小さいので、必要な布も小さいし、とても簡単なので文句は言いません。
作るの楽しいしねぇ。
なんかイマイチだったので作り直し検討中。
身近に赤ちゃんがいないので、サイズとかの感覚がつかめません。

The main fabric is flannel and I used vinyl for the sole.
I love making baby things because they are so tiny and use scraps of fabric. These shoes are no exception.
It was very easy to make but the shoes were kind of "meh" to me so I think I will explore the world of baby shoe patterns a bit more.
