New Look 6892 Liberty Peasant Top

The weather cooled down considerably last weekend so I planned on making a long sleeve shirt. However, the heat wave has come back and has been continuing so a quick short sleeve shirt it is.

The pattern is New Look 6892. I have used this pattern 3 times before but have not nailed the fit yet (Attempt 1. Sleeve too small; Attempt 2. Like it but gets stiff shoulder; Attempt 3. Fabric too stiff).

I used the last of my Liberty tana lawn stash for this top.

I made a View C, a short sleeve version. Cut a size 10, then graded out to size 12 at hip. Other modifications are:
-Took in 1" of back bodice width at center back fold (so 2" total width);
-Added 1/2" to front bodice width at center front fold (so 1" total);
-Lengthened above bust 1.5";
-Lowered front neck 1.5";
-Lengthened sleeve 1.5"; and
-Added back ties

I have a mixed feeling about this shirt. One, while the Liberty fabric is great to work with and to wear, the print is a bit too homey and the final shirt looks a bit too much home-ecky. I have a good meter left of this fabric but I'm not sure what to do with it now.

And two, the placement of the tie is 2" too low (I like empire waist silhouette). I know I could rip the side seam and re-position the tie but I am too lazy to pick french seam.

The fit is still not perfect. The back is poofy without the tie, but with the tie, I'm moving the side seam towards back too much. The proportion of the sleeve is not right either.

I am definitely struggling with this seemingly simply top.
