Yoga Mat Bag

The lack of movement in my daily life has made my already stiff body even stiffer to a point that I have started taking a yoga class once a week. Luckily, it's held at a neighbor's house only three doors down, so I can walk there. The yoga mat came with a strap but I wanted a yoga mat bag that can hold my cell phone and keys, so I made one.

The main body is Ottertex canvas. The strap is a 1" webbing, left-over from MOTH's steering wheel bag, all the way from England. I added Tula Pink ribbon for decoration.

Pocket. Hindsight: should have made it three dimensional. Although my cell phone still fits in it, it's a bit too tight for my cell phone and the keys to comfortably fit in it once the yoga mat is in the bag.

There is a slip pocket inside the zipper pocket to fit my yoga class card.

I like that this Tula Pink ribbon is 7/8" instead of a full inch so that when sewn on the 1" strap, you can see the strap just enough to make it an accent.

It's not lined but I did bind the seams.

This was not my best sewing. I should not have worked on it when I was tired (argh, the painting). Sloppy sewing is what it is.

Also, there are things I should have done differently in addition to the pocket. One, I made the top opening to close with a draw string, but the fabric is too stiff to actually gather evenly. The other is the direction of how the strap is sewn on (too lazy to redo).

But anyway, it's done. I wish I could call it my "prototype" and fix what I didn't like on my "real one" but I don't need a second yoga mat bag so this is it. I'm not 100% happy, but still happy enough to happily use it and take it out to public.
